Description
Not every theater in Moscow can boast of almost a century of history. The Mossovet Theater was created by director and writer Sergei Ivanovich Prokofiev back in 1923.
The heyday of the theater came in the era of Yuri Zavadsky. A student of Stanislavsky and Vakhtangov, he was appointed here in 1940, soon he became artistic director and headed the theater until his death in 1977. Rostislav Plyatt, Vera Maretskaya, Nikolai Mordvinov came to this stage with him. Zavadsky staged both "Masha" by Alexander Afinogenov and "Othello". But his most memorable works are "on a special intonation, on psychological nuance" and "Masquerade" and "Petersburg Dreams" on "Crime and punishment".
A new stage in the life of the collective began in the 70s, when Pavel Osipovich Chomsky joined the troupe, a famous director who later became the artistic director of the theater. Under his leadership, while preserving traditions, the theater is looking for new artistic ways and forms of active communication with the audience. A small stage with 894 seats and a stage with 120 seats under the roof has been created to show experimental productions and performances of "small form".
Today, two and a half dozen performances can be found in the repertoire of the theater: among them both classics and new material. Interestingly, the theater attracts directors representing fundamentally different creative schools to create productions. That is why the theater's performances are so diverse and unexpected. And, of course, it is impossible not to mention the theater troupe: the best Russian actors of our time work here, without false modesty.
The repertoire includes performances of various genres, interesting for all age groups. The troupe of the theater is still stellar: Sergey Yursky, Olga Ostroumova, Anatoly Adoskin, Valentina Talyzina, Nina Drobysheva, Alexander Domogarov, Viktor Sukhorukov, Anatoly Vasiliev, Alexander Filippenko, Gosha Kutsenko, Olga Kabo, Ekaterina Guseva, Pavel Derevyanko, Evgenia Kryukova, Alexander Yatsko and others.
