The Bolshoi Moscow Circus continues to show a program called "I100ria"

The Bolshoi Circus on Vernadsky Avenue is hosting a large-scale performance dedicated to the centenary of this famous circus. This is not just a show, but a fascinating journey through time, recreating significant milestones in the history of Russian circus art and its influence on world culture. The premiere of this theatrical performance took place in 2020 and immediately became one of the most successful circus projects. The show was repeatedly interrupted to launch new programs, but always returned to the arena of the largest stationary circus in Europe.

The show was created by People's Artists of Russia - the Zapashny brothers, animal trainers. Edgard is the general director of the circus, and Askold is the director and artistic director of the production. Magnificent scenery, modern lighting and sound effects immerse the audience in the atmosphere of circus performances of different eras: from the grandeur of the tsarist times to the avant-garde of the 20s, the heroic Soviet era and modern art using the latest technology. The show involves more than 200 artists - acrobats, gymnasts, jugglers, animal trainers and clowns - each of whom demonstrates the highest professionalism. Nadezhda Russ created bright costumes and transformable scenery that reflect the spirit of the times of each period. Dmitry Mekerov wrote the musical accompaniment, which enhances the emotional impact of the performance.

The duration of the show "I100RIA" is three hours with a 20-minute intermission. This educational and inspiring performance introduces the audience to the history of the circus, its traditions and outstanding personalities. The show was created for the whole family for the anniversary of the Russian circus, which began its development immediately after the revolution under the patronage of the new authorities.

The performance begins with the number "Old Circus", where acrobats on a trampoline transport the audience to the times of Tsarist Russia with its harlequins and strongmen in improvised arenas. They remember the smells of sawdust and cotton candy, the cries of barkers and the beating of drums before the start of a wonderful performance. Every performance was a feat back then.

The final act, "Circus of the Future," symbolizes the era of machines: incredibly flexible sea lions, led by Vasily Timchenko Jr., demonstrate their grace in the arena. Vasily represents a dynasty of trainers who have been working with these sea animals for more than half a century.
