Description

For almost 100 years, the Yevgeny Vakhtangov Theater has been pleasing the audience with its light, ironic, but at the same time profound performances and is one of the most famous theaters in Russia. His repertoire includes classical dramatic performances, modern plays, operettas, dance shows, comedies and tragedies, children's performances and poetry evenings.

The history of the Vakhtangov Theater begins long before the date of its official opening. At the end of 1913, a group of Moscow students created a Student Drama Studio, the purpose of which was to teach theatrical art according to the Stanislavsky system. Actor and director of the Art Theater Evgeny Bagrationovich Vakhtangov agreed to head it. The official opening date of the 3rd studio of the Moscow Art Theater is November 13, 1921, on which day the play "The Miracle of St. Anthony" was shown. It was only in 1926 that the studio was renamed the Yevgeny Vakhtangov Theater, after its legendary founder and first director. Now the director of the theater is the famous and beloved by the audience of the whole world director Rimas Tuminas.

Since 1931, a museum has been operating at the theater, opened on the initiative of Vakhtangov's students. Here you can get acquainted with the texts of plays, recordings of directors and actors, posters, photographs and other materials telling about the activities of the theater.

The performances take place on two stages: The Large one accommodates 1055 spectators, and the Small one is designed for 250 seats. The theater also has a "special third stage", an artistic space "Art Cafe". Creative meetings, poetry readings, and performances by the Vakhtangov Orchestra are held here.
