The Vakhtangov Theatre invites audiences to the legendary performance "Eugene Onegin," based on the immortal novel by Alexander Pushkin. An amazing journey into the past, filled with new meanings and discoveries, awaits you. Tickets to the performance offer the opportunity to enjoy a unique interpretation of a well-known story, revealing new facets and allowing for a deeper understanding of the characters' complex destinies.
Audiences will be immersed in the unique atmosphere of the ancient Russian provinces and the secular capital of the early 19th century, thanks to the exquisite set and costume design by production designer Maria Danilova. The leading roles are played by popular favorites: Honored Artist of Russia Sergei Makovetsky as the enigmatic Eugene Onegin and the charming actress Olga Lerman, who you can see as the sincere Tatyana Larina.
Russian national flavor is presented here broadly and fully, and the ending leaves a lasting impression with its simplicity and precision. Each is left alone with their feelings: Tatyana lives in the memories of her past lover, and Onegin finds himself devastated and lost forever. Composer Faustas Latenas's magnificent musical score enhances the reader's experience of the story: two key themes express the tragedy of parting with the past and the futility of resisting fate, enriching our understanding of Pushkin's work. The secrets of the Russian soul are revealed, and the audience follows the twists and turns of the characters' lives.
The version of "Eugene Onegin" directed by Rimas Tuminas is surprisingly harmonious, combining elements of humor, sadness, poetry, and wisdom. Director Rimas has created a unique world where the main characters are surrounded by vivid emotions. Although the production deviates slightly from the literal accuracy of the original, it is completely faithful to the spirit of the original. Unlike versions where the action is often localized in St. Petersburg, Vakhtangov's Onegin takes on a new meaning. At the Vakhtangov Theatre, the director has succeeded in uniting eras. Rimas's production awaits you at the Vakhtangov Theatre. Vakhtangov!
