The Great Hall of the Shostakovich Philharmonic (St. Petersburg) invites you to a concert of the musicAeterna orchestra conducted by Teodor Currentzis on November 11.

This evening, the musicAeterna symphony orchestra will present a work by Brahms (a concerto for violin and orchestra) and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5.

Brahms introduced listeners to his violin concerto in 1879. This work is unique because it is the only violin concerto by Brahms.

Symphony No. 5 was written by Shostakovich in 1937. It was a difficult time for the composer: he was required to conform his work to socialist realism. The created symphony became a worthy response of the composer to these demands - this is what many critics decided at the time. But in fact, this work hides many mysteries: love, references to the opera "Carmen", an endless search and, ultimately, a brilliant creation performed by the best orchestras in the world.

The soloist at the evening will be Olga Volkova - a laureate of many international competitions, concertmaster of the musicAeterna orchestra and the Mikhailovsky Theater.

The musicAeterna orchestra was founded by conductor Teodor Currentzis 20 years ago in Novosibirsk. The group gained fame as part of the Perm Opera and Ballet Theater troupe, and in 2019 acquired independent status and found a new home for itself. It became the House of Radio in the Northern capital.

Together with the conductor, the group performs at the best concert venues in the world: the Berlin Philharmonic, the National Concert Hall of Madrid, the Moscow Conservatory and others.

The performance will take place in one of the most luxurious and spacious halls in our country, which has been the center of the musical life of St. Petersburg for many years.
