Teodor Currentzis and the musicAeterna orchestra will perform Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 and R. Strauss's Four Last Songs at the Moscow Conservatory.

Teodor Currentzis, conductor and founder of the musicAeterna orchestra, will present two works to the public on May 17 and 18. The first will be one of Tchaikovsky's most complex and at the same time best symphonies.

Symphony No. 5 was created by the composer during a difficult period in his life. Intense tours, moving, meeting new people, and, finally, a long-awaited vacation in the summer of 1888 — this is the environment in which Tchaikovsky lived and worked while working on this work. Its premiere took place in the fall of the same year and delighted the public, although critics and the composer himself were not entirely pleased with it.

The symphony consists of three parts and a finale. Its main theme was fate, an evil and inevitable rock, which by the end loses its tragic, predestined nature and acquires bright, life-affirming motives. "Tchaikovsky is a composer you will never know and will always meet for the first time," Currentzis said, and these two May concerts will be an excellent way to rediscover the legacy of the great Russian composer.

"The Four Last Songs" are the last completed works by Richard Strauss, created in 1948. The cycle includes the compositions "Spring", "September", "At Sunset" and "Falling Asleep". The main theme of the cycle is the inevitability of death, which will be accepted with dignity and a sense of duty fulfilled.

The songs will be performed by Diana Nosyreva, a laureate of numerous Russian and international festivals.

The conductor will be Teodor Currentzis, the founder and artistic director of the orchestra and choir musicAeterna and Utopia.
