Description

The Academic Maly Drama Theatre – Theatre of Europe, located in the heart of St. Petersburg on Rubinstein Street, Building 18, is one of the most significant cultural venues in Russia. The theatre building, provided in 1956, combines historical significance and modern comfort, making its visit an unforgettable event for every spectator.

The theatre was founded in 1944 as the Leningrad Regional Drama Theatre of Small Forms. Initially a travelling theatre, it gave performances in towns and villages of the Leningrad Region. In 1993, the theatre was awarded the honorary title of "Academic", and in 1998 it received the status of the Theatre of Europe, which underlines its international recognition and high level of skill. Since 2011, the theatre has had the official name of the Federal State Budgetary Cultural Institution "Academic Maly Drama Theatre – Theatre of Europe".

The artistic director and director of the theatre is Lev Abramovich Dodin, whose name is known far beyond the borders of Russia. Under his direction, the theatre offers its audience a diverse repertoire, including both classical works and modern productions, which allows it to satisfy the tastes of the widest audience.
