The play "The Black Violin" on the Second Stage of the BDT is a touching and profound story created for family viewing. The production, directed by young director Famil Dzhavadov, a graduate of the Andrey Moguchy Director's Workshop, is based on a fairy tale by Swedish writer Ulf Stark, who is often compared to Astrid Lindgren.
The plot centers on brother and sister Ulf and Sara, who tell the story of their childhood. In those distant times, when they were little, Sara fell seriously ill. No toys, balloons or funny stories could bring her joy back. One evening, when Sara could not sleep, she asked Ulf to play the black violin that their father had brought them. The father forbade touching the violin, calling it "special" and claiming that "not everyone can play it." At first Ulf refused, since he did not know how to play, but then he agreed. Gradually, under his hands, the instrument began to make sounds, and Sara fell asleep.
At that moment, Death entered the room. Ulf, not wanting to give up his sister, entered into a musical duel with her. Thanks to the music, human feelings awakened in Death, which changed the course of events.
The play "The Black Violin" is not just a story about struggle and love, it is a deep dive into the world of childhood and fantasy. The production is suitable for family viewing.
