About event

Performance "Save the chamber cadet Pushkin" at the Vasilyevsky Theater is a production based on the play by Israeli playwright Mikhail Kheifetz. The play became a laureate of the “Characters” competition. and bears the subtitle “The story of a failed feat.” In the center of the plot — interaction between two characters, Misha Pitunin and Alexander Pushkin. The performance is filled with recognizable and comical situations that reveal the inner world of the characters.

The main character, Misha Pitunin, is presented as an ordinary boy who often gets into trouble. The plot covers his coming of age during the Soviet years, when education was often based on coercion and imposition. Since childhood, Misha has had a dislike for the poet Alexander Pushkin, considering him the culprit of his troubles. However, as he grows up, his attitude towards the poet changes, which becomes the central line of the story.

In the play, the image of Pushkin is a metaphor reflecting Misha’s internal conflicts. The heroes move through time, learning about the events preceding Pushkin's duel with Georges Dantes. The production sheds light on the personal life of the poet’s circle, including Natalia Goncharova and Louis Heckern. This approach allows viewers to gain a deeper understanding of historical and personal contexts, perhaps even suggesting that the poet could have been saved.
