About event
Performance "Romulus the Great" at the Vasilyevsky Theater is a comedy by Friedrich Dürrenmatt, full of topical parody elements. The play takes place in the last days of the Roman Empire, when Emperor Romulus, flouting power and strength, faces the advancing Germans. The central scene is the moment when Romulus destroys the laurel wreath with his own hands, symbolizing his desire for peace. Despite his buffoonish behavior, the emperor has a clear plan and concept of government.
The role of Romulus is played by Yuri Itskov, adding depth and layers to the image of the last Roman emperor. The performance also stars Tatyana Kalashnikova, Alexander Udaltsov, Mikhail Dolginin, David Brodsky, Tadas Shimilyov, Vladimir Postnikov, Alexey Ludinov, Bulat Shamsutdinov, Arseny Mytsyk, Alexey Mantsygin, Maria Shchekaturova, Artyom Tsypin, Vladislav Lobanov, Anna Koroleva and Mikhail Nikolaev. Director of the production — Denis Khusniyarov, who managed to convey the atmosphere and spirit of Dürrenmatt’s work.
