Director: Boris Eifman.
On February 22 and 23, the Boris Eifman Ballet Theatre will present the performance "Anna Karenina" on the stage of the Alexandrinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg.
The ballet premiered in 2005. Its appearance on the theatre stage caused a huge stir, and the production itself was awarded the "Golden Sofit" prize as the best ballet performance. In Boris Eifman's production, the main characters are only three heroes from Leo Tolstoy's novel: Anna, her husband and her lover.
Tickets for the ballet "Anna Karenina" will allow you to look at the classic work through the prism of ill-considered feelings and passion. The main goal of the choreographer in the two-hour performance is to unravel the mystery of the moment when a monster was born in Anna's soul, who does not recognize any obligations to loved ones. According to Eifman, this happened because of the passion that Anna could not resist, based on the sensual and complex concept created by him and his troupe. The flexibility, grace of the actors, and artistry allow us to express the experiences of the characters, the depth of passions and feelings without words. Over twenty years, the roles of the main characters were played by different artists. Each of them tried to reveal the character and experiences of their hero as deeply as possible.
In Eifman's performance, in addition to the love triangle of the main characters, there is also a corps de ballet, which is an active participant in the plot, symbolizing various aspects of society.
Despite the fact that the plot is based on a novel written almost two centuries ago, its plot is relevant. This production is about today: the emotional intensity of the performance, which defies time, and obvious analogies with reality make us, modern viewers, peer into the features of the characters and look for parallels with ourselves. The exceptional performance skills of the troupe and the choreography of Boris Eifman convey all the psychological complexity of Tolstoy's novel.
The ballet "Anna Karenina" has become a source of inspiration for many modern creators and viewers, because it simultaneously raises questions and provides an explanation for many things, desires, interests, and problems. Eifman's production is as deep and multi-layered as Tolstoy's novel and over 20 years on the theater stage has become a real diamond of ballet art.
