About event

The Alexandrinsky Theatre invites you to a unique event dedicated to the art of filming a dance performance. The evening will be an unforgettable journey into the world of dance and cinema, where the boundaries between stage and screen are erased, creating a new dimension of art.

The program includes two premieres. The dance film "OM/Illuminated Place" is a film adaptation of the play "Clean Well-Lit Place", in which choreographer Alexander Gurvich and director Dina Veryutina explore the interaction of movement and stillness. The heroes of the film, created with the participation of the talented dance company Okoem, travel around the city in search of a special illuminated place where new meanings are born.

The documentary film "In Search of Movement" from director Yuri Mokienko immerses the viewer behind the scenes of the film adaptation process, revealing the dialogue between the director and the choreographer. The film explores how movement is transformed when it is captured by the camera lens, and what new forms of expression are born in this process.

The evening will also include a discussion about whether a film adaptation should follow the stage version or become an independent work. Moderator - art critic Olga Ugarova - together with director Dina Veryutina and Yuri Mokienko will discuss how European choreographers work on film adaptations and whether Soviet ballet films can be considered film adaptations.
