The Alexandrinsky Theatre presents the ballet "Liturgy" - a unique production created by composer Sergey Akhunov. This performance combines ancient Russian line singing, references to the works of Igor Stravinsky and elements of theatrical performance. The choreography was developed by Olga Tsvetkova, and the artists of the Kannon Dance Company from St. Petersburg will bring it to life on stage.
The musical atmosphere is created by the Moscow orchestra of contemporary music OpensoundOrchestra conducted by Stanislav Malyshev and the vocal ensemble INTRADA. These groups fill the performance with sounds that immerse the audience in the spirit of the art of the early 20th century. The visual component of the performance is enriched by costume designer Sergei Illarionov and lighting designer Anatoly Lyapin.
It is interesting that the ballet "Liturgy" has historical roots. As part of the famous "Russian Seasons" of Sergei Diaghilev, Leonid Myasin intended to stage this work in 1915-1917. Initially, it was planned to create a production in the style of Byzantine mosaics without musical accompaniment, but the project was not completed.
