Director: Sergey Akhunov.
The ballet "Liturgy" at the Alexandrinsky Theatre is a unique production created by composer Sergei Akhunov. The performance is a harmonious combination of ancient Russian line singing, allusions to the music of Igor Stravinsky and elements of theatrical performance. The choreography was done by Olga Tsvetkova, and the performance was entrusted to the artists of the Kannon Dance Company from St. Petersburg.
The musical accompaniment will be provided by the Moscow orchestra of contemporary music OpensoundOrchestra under the direction of conductor Stanislav Malyshev and the vocal ensemble INTRADA. These groups will create a unique sound atmosphere, immersing the audience in the world of art of the early 20th century. Costume designer Sergei Illarionov and lighting designer Anatoly Lyapin will add visual depth, making the production even more exciting.
The ballet "Liturgy" has an interesting historical basis. As part of the famous "Russian Seasons" of Sergei Diaghilev, Leonide Massine planned to stage this ballet in 1915-1917. Originally conceived as a production in the style of Byzantine mosaics without musical accompaniment, the work was supposed to receive musical accompaniment, but the project was never completed.
Today you have a unique opportunity to see this production at the Alexandrinsky Theatre. Buying tickets on our website is easy and convenient.
