In the production of Georgy Isaakyan, the action of the opera «Manon» moves to the forties of the 20th century, a period when France fell under the fascist invasion, and the country was divided into two parts: the capital Paris and the «Vichy zone». The main characters, Manon and des Grieux, are forced to leave Paris and flee to Vichy, where their bitter parting takes place. The director's concept allows the audience to feel the atmosphere of time and place, as well as experience the emotional conflict of a young couple.

Original score of the opera «Manon» underwent some changes, and only one intermission remained in the performance, separating the first and second scenes of the third act. This creates a juxtaposition between the gloomy atmosphere of the meeting of the «Abbé des Grieux» and and Manon still in love with him in the monastery and a bright denouement in the gambling house. The final picture also differs from the original: the action is transferred to the mental hospital where Manon spends her last days, and des Grieux comes to say goodbye, always loving and grieving for her.
