The play "15 Old Suitcases and One Country" at the Alexandrinsky Theater is a unique musical retrospective, revealing the history of our country through famous and beloved songs. In 2021, the production was updated: new musical pieces, as well as audio and visual effects, were added.
One of the features of the performance is the combination of works by three outstanding composers - Isaak Dunaevsky, Vasily Solovyov-Sedoy and Bulat Okudzhava. The audience, as if on a musical train, goes through the childhood, youth and maturity of our Motherland. Thanks to the skill of the director and actors, each song turns into a small performance, conveying the emotional mood of a bygone era.
Old suitcases play an important role in the narrative. They become active participants in the stage action, turning into a front-line car, a radio, a one-and-a-half-ton truck and even glowing houses of the night city. Suitcases symbolize the path, the road, moving forward and the expectation of change.
The musical accompaniment includes piano, guitar, balalaika and button accordion. Each instrument plays its part, continuing and picking up the action, becoming an integral part of the performance.
