About event

The play “One Eight Eight One” is being staged on the stage of the Alexandrinsky Theater. The director was Valery Fokin.

The onset of autumn is approaching, which means the Alexandrinsky International Theater Festival is starting again in St. Petersburg. It has been held every year since 2006 and brings together stunning productions created through the efforts of domestic and foreign troupes. This time its beginning coincides with the new 267th season of the theater, so the opening performance will have special significance.

When drawing up the program, the organizers chose Valery Fokin’s new project - “One Eight Eight One”. Many have been looking forward to the high-profile premiere for a long time, because the works of the chief artistic director of the National Drama Theater cannot be called anything other than masterpieces.

He set himself the task of taking a fresh look at the events of March 1881, which forever changed the political course of the Russian Empire. The basis for the production was one of the plays of Boris Akunin, a famous writer in the genre of historical literature, so you don’t have to worry about the reliability of the facts and characters. Guests of the theater will become observers of the 7th and final assassination attempt on Emperor Alexander II.

You probably know the details of the bloody incident from your school history course, but have you ever tried to imagine what feelings were possessed in those fateful days by Ignatius Grinevitsky, the man who personally threw the shell, or the heir to the throne, Alexander 3, who buried his father and began his reign with executions?

Ivan Volkov, Ivan Trus, Pyotr Semak, Andrey Kalinin, Anna Blinova and other gifted actors will flawlessly convey the emotions of the main characters. They will remind you that behind the important political figures there were ordinary people hiding, and they will play the roles without a hint of pathos.

You can buy tickets for the play “One Eight Eight One” around the clock on our website. The electronic diagram of the hall displays up-to-date information on the number of available seats.
