Yuri Bashmet is an iconic figure in the world of music, whose creative career has spanned over fifty years. He is not only a masterful viola player but also a talented conductor, having had a significant influence on the development of classical music. Born in 1953 in Rostov-on-Don, Bashmet graduated from the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory under the distinguished teachers Vadim Borisovsky and Fyodor Druzhinin.

Bashmet is the first performer of many works for viola written specifically for him by composers such as Alfred Schnittke and Sofia Gubaidulina. His unique interpretation and virtuoso performance have brought him worldwide renown and allowed him to collaborate with leading orchestras around the world. In 1982, he began his career as a conductor and soon founded the chamber ensemble "Moscow Soloists," which won a Grammy Award for its outstanding recordings.

Since 2002, Bashmet has directed the New Russia State Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his concert activities, he actively participates in charity events and music festivals around the world, including events in Sochi and Italy. The maestro also teaches at the Moscow Conservatory, where he founded the Experimental Viola Department.
