On June 27, 28 and 29, the House of Music in Perm presents the all-Russian premiere of Theodor Currentzis’ concert “Dusapin. Passion | Passion."
Pascal Dusapin is a graduate of the Sorbonne, a volunteer student of the Paris National Conservatory, a student of Iannis Xenakis, Franco Donatoni. Dusapin is considered one of the most talented and recognized composers of our time.
This is not the first time he has participated in the Diaghilev Festival. In 2012, his opera MedeaMaterial was presented as a premiere in Perm, and the maestro was personally present at it.

The opera is based on a plot about the tragic fate of the mythical heroes Orpheus and Eurydice. Having gone to the kingdom of Hades, Orpheus did not fulfill the main condition for saving his beloved: he looked back at her without hearing Eurydice’s steps when he led her out of the kingdom of the dead. Eurydice's shadow returned forever to the abode of darkness, and Orpheus was torn to pieces by the maenads.
Dusapin focuses on the tragic scene of the separation of Orpheus and Eurydice. The music subtly follows the development of feelings in two loving hearts. They alternate between a huge range of emotions: the joy of meeting, the fear of loss, the pain of loneliness, anger at the injustice of the gods and the timid hope of meeting.
The composer began his creative journey with complex, impulsive compositions, but gradually came to soft, simple and harmonious forms. Without percussion instruments, based on the experience of modernists and French folklore, he creates works that become modern classics. A very important part of the opera "Passion" is not only vocals, but also plasticity. Drawing inspiration from the works of the early Baroque, the dance in it organically merges with vocals, turning into a single creation.
The musical director of the production, Teodor Currentzis, director Anna Guseva, and the musicAeterna orchestra and choir will present their understanding of one of the most important works of our time.
