The piercing "Last Summer" awaits viewers at the Theatre of Nations
From September 29 to November 1, 2025, the Main Stage of the theater will present a drama reflecting the fragility of the everyday world and the inevitability of change. The plot unfolds against the backdrop of the fateful events of World War I.
The production is based on the script "Kuokkala", created by the famous writer and screenwriter Anna Kozlova, who became famous thanks to the TV series "A Short Course in a Happy Life" and "Mediator". Director Danil Chashchin takes the audience to the dacha village of Kuokkala (now Repino), which was once a favorite vacation spot for the St. Petersburg intelligentsia. Here, far from the sounds of war, the characters try to maintain their usual way of life: they have philosophical conversations, hold spiritualistic sessions, read aloud and fall in love, as if not noticing that a new cruel century is already close.
The central character Anna, the wife of an officer, lives with her entourage - a doctor neighbor, a teenage son, relatives and servants - in the atmosphere of Chekhov's plays. They try not to notice the alarming signs of an impending catastrophe. However, the return of Anna's husband from the front, changed by the war, destroys this idyll. Gradually, all the characters find themselves overwhelmed by a premonition of impending upheavals, which makes the audience anxiously follow their fates.
Outstanding actors will perform on stage. The story is told from the perspective of the character Nika in adulthood, played by the legendary Veniamin Smekhov. The role of Anna is played by theater and film stars Yulia Peresild and Elena Nikolaeva. The performance also features Mikhail Troynik, Dmitry Chebotarev, Ivan Dobronravov, Vitaly Kovalenko and other famous actors.
"The Last Summer" is not just a historical drama; it is a profound reflection on how great historical events are reflected in the destinies of individuals. The performance is a warning and sounds especially poignant and heartfelt today. Tickets for the production of "The Last Summer" at the Theater of Nations can be purchased on our website. Don't miss the opportunity to see this impressive and timely work, which has already received rave reviews from viewers and critics.
