Director: Danil Chashchin

The play "The Last Summer" is now in its third season at the Theatre of Nations. Audiences are unanimous in their opinions—this production impresses with the work of everyone involved in the creative process, from the actors, director, and costume designers to the lighting and set designers.

Tickets for the play "The Last Summer" will transport you to the serene world of the small dacha village of Kuokkala in the early 20th century. The intelligentsia spends warm August evenings here in a pleasant atmosphere of fellowship, conversations about literature, poetry, and art. It seems nothing can darken the summer of 1917, but World War I is already raging, with only six months remaining until February 1917, and just over a year until the October Revolution. Soon, happy moments will vanish forever, friendship will turn to enmity, and some of the great poets of the era—Sergei Yesenin, Nikolai Gumilyov, Osip Mandelstam—will end their lives quite tragically. Although the plot sounds sad and dramatic, director Daniil Chashchin emphasizes that the goal of the play is not to frighten the audience with horrors, but to remind them that in difficult times, it is art and poetry that give people hope and meaning in life. Many viewers note the numerous references to the works of the Russian classic poet Anton Chekhov. Of particular interest are performances by renowned stage performers such as actor Veniamin Smekhov and actress Yulia Peresild, whom encounters have become rare in the modern theater scene.
