Many years later, the play that first saw the limelight within these walls makes a triumphant return

Bulgakov's masterpiece is a complex theatrical phantasmagoria, in which the image of the famous French playwright Jean-Baptiste Moliere conceals a brutal analysis of the eternal confrontation between the Artist and the Power. In Moliere's fate, as if in a mirror, Bulgakov sees a reflection of his own life, raising questions relevant both in the 17th century and in the Soviet 1930s, and even today: what is a genius willing to sacrifice for the sake of creative freedom? How to maintain the truth in a world of intrigue and hypocrisy? What awaits an artist who decides to challenge the system? Is creativity a blessing or a curse?

The production is directed by Yuri Kvyatkovsky, known for his daring and intellectual projects. His interpretation promises to be sharp, visually impressive and deeply personal, revealing all aspects of Bulgakov's satire, tragedy and philosophical parable.

At the center of the play is a brilliant cast led by Konstantin Khabensky. His embodiment of the role of Moliere/Sganarelle (or the Master, as this image is often considered to be a reflection of Bulgakov himself) will be one of the key events of the theater season. Talented actors of the Moscow Art Theater and guest artists will perform with him on stage: Alexandra Rebenok, Olga Petrova, Elizaveta Ermakova, Ilya Kozyrev and Sergey Volkov.
