The Gorky Moscow Art Theatre is bringing its play Yesenin's Women to the Vakhtangov Theatre

This production, which has already acquired cult status, offers viewers an unusual and profound look at the life and work of the great Russian poet through the stories of the women who loved him. The play, based on the book by Zakhar Prilepin, immerses you in the world of passions, inspiration and tragedies that surrounded Sergei Yesenin. Tickets for the play "Yesenin's Women" are available for purchase on our website.

Director Galina Polischuk, known for her unique theatrical language and expressiveness of form, created a bright and emotionally charged performance. The focus is not just on a list of the poet's romantic passions, but an attempt to explore the influence of these relationships on his soul and their reflection in his immortal works. Each of the heroines — from the patient Anna Izryadnova and passionate Zinaida Reich to the world-famous Isadora Duncan and devoted Galina Benislavskaya — left her mark on his life.

The production poses difficult questions to the audience. What pushed Yesenin to new muses? Was it a search for an unattainable ideal or an escape from himself? The play also touches on the complex relationships in the poet's family and how his mother's drama could have affected his adult life.

The outstanding cast gives the production a special power. The leading roles are played by famous theater and film actors: Ekaterina Strizhenova, Alisa Grebenshchikova, Ekaterina Volkova and Andrei Veshkurtsev. Their performance allows you to deeply feel the tragedy of each character and the versatility of Yesenin himself, played by Andrey Veshkurtsev.

The scenography of the play, created by Aigars Ozoliņš, stands out for its symbolism and attention to detail. Directing techniques, such as the use of slow-motion scenes in fights, give the production a modern and cinematic feel. Music and choreography are harmoniously woven into the narrative, creating a coherent picture.

“Yesenin’s Women” is a play that provokes discussions and strong emotions. Some consider it an attempt to denigrate the poet’s bright image, while others see it as an honest portrait of a genius with all his weaknesses and contradictions. However, it leaves no one indifferent.
