The play «The Master and Margarita», staged on the stage of the Moscow Art Theater named after A. P. Chekhov, became an important event in the world theater space. The premiere, dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the great Russian writer Mikhail Bulgakov, took place in 2011.

The creators of the stage version of this cult novel, one of the most mysterious works of the 20th century, transferred its action to modern Moscow, into the space of the Moscow metro. Hungarian director Janos Sas, known for his successful projects in theater and cinema, presented his interpretation on the stage of the Moscow Art Theater.

The play «The Master and Margarita» was warmly received by both critics and the audience. Oleg Tabakov, who headed the theater at the time, stressed that the director managed to convey the greatness of love and show how love inspires talent to fight the world. After all, it is thanks to Margarita’s love that the Master continues his work.
