About event

The play “The Last Train” will take place on the Lenkom stage.

Viña Delmar is an American writer, information about whom you will not find in school textbooks. However, each of her 20 plays was filmed, and each of her novels became a bestseller. Directors Ildar Gilyazev and Anton Yakovlev decided to turn to her legacy through joint efforts. The choice fell on the novel “Make Place for Tomorrow,” based on which the original play by the poet and film screenwriter Sergei Plotov, “The Last Car,” was written.

It tells the story of an elderly couple who have lived together for over 50 years. Traditionally, 5 children and their families come to them for the holidays. At the right moment, the Coopers announce that their income has dropped sharply after retirement and that the bank will soon take their house for non-payment of bills. The question on the agenda is: which child will take care of their parents? After a lengthy discussion, it was decided: the father would go to live with his youngest daughter, and the mother with her eldest son. The main characters will face a serious test of strength. Not only do they have to separate after half a century of marriage, but they also have to end up in a “foreign monastery,” leaving behind the usual rules.

A Hollywood film adaptation of this story, made in 1937, is freely available on the Internet. Due to the gloomy atmosphere, it did not evoke an enthusiastic response from the audience, but was appreciated by critics. If you would be interested in comparing modern theater and retro cinema, then we recommend watching the film immediately after this premiere. The theatrical version will delight you with high-quality musical accompaniment, selected by Ivan Zamotaev, and costumes designed by Tatyana Kondrychina

The performance will be attended by People's Artists of the Russian Federation - Viktor Rakov, Anna Yakunina, Vladimir Yumatov, Honored Artists of the Russian Federation - Andrei Leonov, Vladimir Eremin, Stanislav Zhitarev, Anna Bolshova, Olesya Zheleznyak and others.
