About event
In the city of Moscow, on the stage of the famous State Academic Theater named after Mossovet, there will be a screening of the play “It’s not all Maslenitsa for the cat” based on the play of the same name by Alexander Nikolaevich Ostrovsky. Stage director: Viktor Shamirov.
Despite the fact that A.N. himself Ostrovsky called the play “It’s not all Maslenitsa for the cat” just “scenes from Moscow life”; this bright and original comedy with colorful merchant life has not left the stage for more than 150 years and is extremely popular among modern viewers, remaining relevant today.
Ostrovsky wrote this play in 1871, in just one month. The first publication occurred in the journal “Otechestvennye Zapiski” of the same year and, according to the same author, it was “more of a sketch than a play”, in which there were no stage effects and it was written more “for experts” than for the general public.
The plot centers on a daughter and her mother. Each of them faces their own choice. For the daughter, this dilemma consists in choosing the chosen one in life - to marry an unloved, but rich and wealthy old man, or a beloved, but poor young man. Against this background, the main character’s mother, who, on the other hand, wants to improve her own destiny, cannot decide on her thoughts on arranging her daughter’s personal life.
The play “It’s not all Maslenitsa for cats” is an acting work and is rich in poignant roles. A wonderful cast will provide viewers with a vivid reading of Ostrovsky’s funny and instructive comedy. Perhaps this is precisely the secret of the success of the production up to the present day.
