The Ak Bars Martial Arts Palace, located in Kazan, is one of the largest and most specialized sports facilities in Russia and in the world. It is designed primarily for training and martial arts competitions, but can also be used as a universal sports palace. This palace was one of the key venues of the 2013 Summer Universiade. Located in the southern part of the Novo-Savinovsky district, on the banks of the Kazanka River, near the Millennium Bridge and in close proximity to two other important Universiade venues - the Kazan Arena and the Aquatics Palace, this sports house has a total area of more than 17,000 square meters. The main arena accommodates 2,000 spectators. Inside the palace there is everything necessary for training and development of various types of martial arts: there are 4 training halls, a gym, changing rooms with showers, a recreational center with saunas, hydro procedures and a swimming pool. In total, the palace has sections for more than 10 types of martial arts, such as Aikido, army hand-to-hand combat, boxing, belt wrestling, freestyle wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, judo, karate, kickboxing, sambo, taekwondo and many others. Much attention is also paid to the education of sports potential among children and youth, therefore, a children's and youth sports school specializing in the sports listed above operates within the palace. For the construction of the Ak Bars Martial Arts Palace, a project was developed by SUE Tatinvestgrazhdanproekt in Kazan. The renovation of the house was completed in October 2009 and has since met all safety requirements and standards. During the 2013 Universiade, the Palace provided the main arena for freestyle wrestling, classical wrestling, belt wrestling and koresh competitions. During the existence of this sports complex, such major competitions as the 2011 World Ballroom and Sports Dancing Championships, the 2012 World Police Judo Championships, the 2016 World Taekwondo Championships, the 2017 World Wushu Championships (together with the Gymnastics Center), several world wrestling championships were held inside its walls. belts and koresh wrestling, the 2011 European Youth Fencing Championship, the 2012 European Taekwondo Qualification Tournament, the 2016 European Judo Championship, The 2016 European Sambo Championship and many other high-level events.
