About event
The ballet “Russian Hamlet”, staged by Boris Eifman to the music of L. Beethoven and G. Mahler, returns to the stage again as part of the tour of the B. Eifman Ballet Theater. The performance, dedicated to the figure of Paul I, explores the tragic confrontation of this extraordinary personality with a hostile world. The production is limited to the period of succession of Paul I and vividly illustrates his internal struggle in the context of violence, treachery and lies.
Over the years of its existence, "Russian Hamlet" has been successfully presented in various countries, including the USA, France, Italy, Germany, Austria, China, South Korea and Argentina. The performance received high praise from critics, including Anna Kisselgoff and Clive Barnes, who noted the emotional intensity and stage metaphors. The New York Times called Boris Eifman a choreographer with a unique gift for electrifying images and theatrical fantasies.
In its 40th anniversary season, the Eifman Theater once again turns to “Russian Hamlet,” rethinking the choreographic score and making it even more inventive and emotionally rich. At the Shaanxi Grand Theatre, viewers will be able to see an updated version of this performance, which continues to attract attention with its depth and relevance.
