About event
The ballet "Russian Hamlet", staged by Boris Eifman, created to the music of Ludwig van Beethoven and Gustav Mahler, is an in-depth study of the personality of Paul I, one of the most mysterious and controversial figures in Russian history. The choreographer limited the chronological scope of the production to the period of Paul's succession, which allowed him to depict the tragic confrontation of this extraordinary and mentally fragile personality with a hostile world built on violence, treachery and lies.
The play "Russian Hamlet" was demonstrated with great success on stages in the USA, France, Italy, Germany, Austria, China, South Korea, Argentina and many other countries. Famous ballet critics Anna Kisselgoff and Clive Barnes unanimously recognized the production as one of the best in modern ballet. In a review by The New York Times, Boris Eifman was called "virtually the only choreographer with a special gift for electrifying images and theatrical fantasies."
In the 40th anniversary season, the Eifman Theater once again turns to “Russian Hamlet”, reviving this iconic performance. The plot outline remained without significant changes, but the choreographic score was rethought, making the production even more refined and emotionally rich. This step allows viewers to once again enjoy an outstanding work of art that continues to be relevant and impressive.
The Boris Eifman Ballet Theater's tour of the ballet "Russian Hamlet" will take place at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center. Buy tickets for the ballet "Russian Hamlet" (tour of the B. Eifman Ballet Theater) to the Shanghai Center for Oriental Art on our website.
