Description
The Lensovet Palace of Culture is a historical and architectural monument of St. Petersburg, which is a wonderful venue for cultural events. Located at 42 Kamennoostrovsky Prospekt, this palace of culture is a wonderful example of constructivism in architecture.
The building was built in 1931-1938 according to the design of E. A. Levinson and V. O. Munts and since then has served as a favorite place for both residents and guests of the city. Its theater hall for 2,200 seats was created taking into account the best traditions of acoustics and includes a parterre amphitheater and two balconies. The design of the hall is made in the style of a megaphone, which has an excellent effect on the quality of sound and creates a special atmosphere.
In addition to the theater hall, the building also houses club and sports areas. The library, located on three floors and framed by glass planes, adds special appeal. The tower, which was supposed to become the core of the composition and the dominant feature of the avenue, rising 30 meters, also attracts attention.
The Lensovet Palace of Culture, originally called «Promka», was named after the Leningrad Council of Workers' Deputies in 1960. Currently, the building houses various shops and offices, but also hosts concerts, theater performances and lectures.
