Description
The St. Petersburg Academic Comedy Theatre named after N.P. Akimov, located in the heart of the Northern capital on Nevsky Prospect, is a unique cultural space that attracts and delights both locals and visitors to the city. This historic theatre, founded in October 1929, has become an integral part of the cultural life of St. Petersburg.
The Comedy Theatre, originally located on the second floor of the Eliseev Brothers Trading Company, has come a long way in its formation and development. In 1935, thanks to the efforts of the talented director and artist Nikolai Pavlovich Akimov, the theatre found a new life and was recognized as the best in the country. Since then, under Akimov's direction, the theatre has become known as Akimov's, and its troupe has been replenished with legendary actors such as Irina Zarubina, Vladimir Uskov and others.
During the war and the subsequent period of Soviet rule, the theatre experienced difficult times. Nikolay Akimov was removed from the management, but in 1956 he returned and breathed life into the theater again. During this period, such famous productions as "The Shadow" and "The Dragon" by Schwartz, "Twelfth Night" by Shakespeare and others appeared on the stage.
Since 1995 and to this day, the theater has been headed by Honored Artist Tatyana Kazakova. Under her leadership, the theater acquired a new style, full of bright productions, mysticism, light and music. Composers such as Igor Rogalev and Evgeny Stetsyuk write music especially for the theater.
In 2014, according to the results of a survey conducted by the Committee on Culture of the Administration of St. Petersburg, the Academic Comedy Theater named after N.P. Akimov was recognized as the best among the drama theaters of the city.
