The performance "My Fair Lady" at the Musical Comedy Theatre (St. Petersburg) invites viewers to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of rainy London in the mid-20th century. The story of the young violet seller Eliza Doolittle, whose life changes dramatically after meeting the gentleman Henry Higgins, comes to life on stage again. Eliza's transformation from a street flower seller into an exquisite lady is the central theme of the production, which promises to captivate viewers with its drama and musical splendor.

The new production is the theater's second turn to the famous play by J.B. Shaw "Pygmalion", reworked for the musical stage. The first production, staged by Andrei Tutyshkin in 1964, became a real hit thanks to the outstanding acting ensemble. It featured stars of the Leningrad theater scene: Zoya Vinogradova, Alfred Shargorodsky, Lev Petropavlovsky and Nikolai Yanet. The play was recognized as a "victory" for its successful mastery of serious dramaturgy, which was unusual for the operetta genre.

The libretto was based on a play by J.B. Shaw, which, in turn, was based on the ancient myth of the sculptor Pygmalion and his ideal statue Galatea. After the musical adaptation, the story received a new round of popularity, especially after the premiere on Broadway in 1956. The play lasted 2,717 performances over six years, which became a record.
