The play «The Gamblers», staged at the St. Petersburg Theatre Russian Enterprise named after Andrei Mironov, invites viewers to plunge into the atmosphere of gambling and human passions. The plot centers on an artist who has created a phenomenal deck of cards and dreams of conquering the world, like Napoleon. However, he is surrounded by a world of swindlers and rogues, such as Uteshitelny, Shvokhnev and Krugel, whose speaking surnames emphasize their true nature. These characters, being a «solid majority», as in Ibsen, threaten to devour the genius.
The production is directed by Anton Yakovlev, who also acted as the author of the musical design and soundtrack. The set and costume designer was Nikolai Slobodjanik, whose works create a unique atmosphere on stage.
