About event
The play “The Old Man and the Sea” at the Baltic House Theater is a unique production based on the famous story by Ernest Hemingway, created by the talented director Rinat Kiyakov. The Old Man and the Sea is Hemingway's last work, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954. The story about the fisherman Santiago, his struggle with a giant fish and inner demons, has won the hearts of readers around the world.
Director Rinat Kiyakov does not seek to retell all the events of the story. Instead, he focuses on the deeper meanings and symbols embedded in the work. “Having lost the miracle fish, being left without oars and a harpoon, having suffered a crushing defeat, the Old Man found something very important for himself on this journey,” says Kiyakov. Hemingway’s words become important in the production: “Everything about him was old except his eyes, and his eyes were the color of the sea, the cheerful eyes of a man who does not give up.”
The play “The Old Man and the Sea” in “ Baltic House" is not just a theatrical adaptation, but a deep study of the human soul, its hopes and despairs. The production allows the viewer to immerse itself in the atmosphere of the work, to feel the strength of spirit and fortitude of the main character.
