From January 2nd to 5th, 2026, the Benois Wing of the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg will host a major exhibition, "Arkhip Kuindzhi. The Illusion of Light," dedicated to the outstanding Russian artist, deservedly nicknamed the "Master of Light." We recommend purchasing tickets in advance—great interest is expected, and space is limited for each museum visit.
You will have access to the world's largest collection of Arkhip Ivanovich Kuindzhi's works, housed at the Russian Museum. The exhibition features more than 200 of the artist's works, including paintings and graphic works, representing the most striking layer of Russian landscape painting of the late 19th century. The exhibits include timeless masterpieces of Russian culture that have forever entered the history of world art: "Lake Ladoga," a series of famous "moonlit nights," including the legendary "Moonlit Night on the Dnieper," as well as the vibrant landscapes "Rainbow," "Valaam," "Night," and many other works.
These paintings are more than just depictions of nature. They evoke a sense of profound admiration and awe, thanks to Kuindzhi's unique gift for creating a living glow. His canvases evoke emotions, impart impressions, and draw the viewer into an atmosphere of magic. The exhibition places particular emphasis on the artist's methods and techniques for achieving realistic lighting, imbuing his paintings with an enchanting shimmer and mysterious aura.
A tour of the exhibition allows for an in-depth exploration of Arkhip Kuindzhi's creative journey—from a young self-taught artist to a recognized leader of the Russian art school. You will learn how his talent developed, get acquainted with the process of forming original approaches to the rendering of light and color, which influenced subsequent generations of artists and defined a new direction in Russian art.
This project attracts great attention of viewers and art connoisseurs.
