The start of the KHL playoffs this season is scheduled for March 26. 16 teams will take part in the race for the main trophy of the tournament, 8 of which will represent the Western Conference, and the other 8 - the Eastern Conference. The main prize will be the Gagarin Cup. This trophy passed from the champion of the previous year to the winner of the current year. SKA from St. Petersburg has never missed the playoffs. The team is striving for victory in the KHL in its 16th season, although it is difficult to call its progress smooth for the St. Petersburg army men. The club did not always have a smooth playoff run either. At the beginning of their journey, they were eliminated in the 1/8 finals, but later became regular participants in the conference finals. In 2014/2015 and 2016/2017, they won the Gagarin Cup. Over 16 years of participation in the playoffs, SKA won 133 victories and suffered 75 defeats. Despite the fact that they are not among the leaders of the standings this season, SKA remains a formidable force and is a contender for the trophy.
This season, in the 1/8 finals of the playoffs, eight teams will fight for a chance to advance to the next stage in their conferences. Four teams from the West and four from the East will advance to the quarterfinals, where they will be divided into two groups. In the first group, the leader of the West will meet the fourth team of the East, and the third from the West will play the second team of the East, in the other group - vice versa. The winners of this stage will play in the 1/2 finals, where two participants of the final of the Gagarin Cup 2025 will be determined. In each series, the teams will play up to four victories, but no more than seven matches.
