The operetta "Knock-Knock" at the Musical Comedy Theatre (St. Petersburg) is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of St. Petersburg at the beginning of the 20th century. This chamber project was created as part of a series of dedications to the 110th anniversary of the opening of the Palace Theatre, the first institution in the city that specialized in performing operettas.
The premiere of the play "Knock-Knock" took place in 1917 on the stage of the Palace Theatre, which was located in a luxurious mansion on Italianskaya Street, 13. The plot tells the story of the careerist Putantsev, who, following the principle "the end justifies the means", weaves intrigues in the institution headed by his godfather. The music for the play was written by the Czech Wilhelm Spacek, the chief conductor of the Palace, who skillfully included famous musical themes in the score, from folk songs to Tchaikovsky's arias.
In 1938, the Musical Comedy Theatre settled in the Palace Theatre building, which remains the only professional operetta theatre in St. Petersburg to this day. In honor of the 110th anniversary of the opening of the Palace, the Musical Comedy Theatre decided to introduce the audience to the best examples of the repertoire of its predecessor.
The operetta Knock-Knock is presented in a shortened version with the participation of a small orchestra and five soloists. The play takes place in one of the theatre's main living rooms, where the actors and musicians are in close proximity to the audience. This creates a unique atmosphere and allows the audience to fully immerse themselves in what is happening on stage.
