About event
Performance "Feast during the Plague" at the Baltic House Theater is one of the highlights of the XXVI International Festival of Russian Theaters “Meetings in Russia”. Russian Drama Theater named after Vl. Mayakovsky from Tajikistan will present this production.
Theater named after Vl. Mayakovsky is one of the oldest and most famous theaters in Tajikistan, which has received international prestigious awards and recognition at theater festivals. Its repertoire includes vibrant works of world classical and modern drama. The theater always pays attention to eternal and universal issues, such as life and death, morality and spiritual choice.
Performance "Feast during the Plague" based on the final little tragedy of A.S. Pushkin. It talks about how people behave in the face of imminent death from the plague. Some continue to enjoy life as if death does not exist, feast and love. Others seek solace in faith by praying and accepting any will of God, including death. This is the main theme of the play.
The production intertwines three works by Pushkin: “A Feast During the Plague”, “Scene from Faust” and “Imitation of the Koran.” This gives the performance new meanings and enriches it. The set design of the performance resembles a ship on which people are trying to cope with insurmountable life circumstances and death itself, escaping from the plague. The characters of the play play several roles, linking Pushkin’s small tragedies into a single tragic canvas of human destinies.
