The Mikhailovsky Theater of St. Petersburg invites you to an incredible classical Russian ballet «Spartacus» in 2 acts 9 pictures to music by Aram Khachaturian, based on historical materials and art works.
This provocative and dynamic performance became one of the loudest sensations of the Soviet ballet era. However, even today it looks no less spectacular than it did sixty years ago. The ballet has remained in the repertoire of the Academic Theater thanks to the huge interest of the public. The large-scale scenes of imperial Rome with its luxurious processions, feasts and gladiatorial fights amaze the imagination. Against this colorful background dramatic collisions develop, characters clash and passions flare up. The fast-paced action is reminiscent of cinematic action, in which scenes alternate with breathtaking speed. And the powerful energy of the performance erases the boundaries between the stage and the audience.
It is interesting that original historical documents and chronicles were used to create the libretto. Therefore, the plot of the performance is as true and authentic as possible: it tells the story of the Thracian ruler Spartacus, who sacrifices his life for the freedom of others. The luxury and pampering of the Roman nobility, a certain «antique glamor» are emphasized by unique sets and costumes. The performance combines dance, music, singing and drama - the synthesis of these arts promises the audience an unforgettable experience.
