Opera "The Oprichnik" at the Mikhailovsky Theater represents an important event in the world of classical music. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, by creating this work, laid the foundations of his fame as a composer of the opera genre. The plot of the opera takes viewers back to the reign of Ivan the Terrible, telling the story of the young boyar Andrei Morozov, who seeks to restore the honor of his family and return his beloved. Having joined the oprichnina, the Tsar's personal guard, Andrei is faced with a difficult choice that leads to dramatic consequences.

The Mikhailovsky Theater, located in the heart of St. Petersburg, is one of the leading opera venues in Russia. The theater is famous for its rich history and high standards of performance. The theater hall has excellent acoustics and comfortable seats for spectators, which ensures an unforgettable experience from each performance.

Work on the score of the opera “The Oprichnik” was completed by Tchaikovsky in the spring of 1872, and the world premiere took place in St. Petersburg on April 12, 1874. The performance, directed by Eduard Napravnik, was favorably received by both the press and the audience. Despite this, Tchaikovsky was dissatisfied with the opera and revised it until the end of his life, but did not have time to complete his plan.

The creators of the performance at the Mikhailovsky Theater, based on Tchaikovsky's edits and notes, shortened the score, removing unnecessary repetitions, and dramaturgically rethought individual fragments. This allowed us to create a modern and dynamic version of the opera that preserves the spirit of the original and attracts the attention of modern audiences.
