The musical "Vinyl" at the Lensovet Palace of Culture is a fascinating journey into the era of the hipsters, where music and fashion become symbols of freedom and change. The production takes viewers back to Moscow in 1957, during the 6th World Festival of Youth and Students. This is the time when the capital's youth first discovers the world beyond the "iron curtain", and it is against this backdrop that the events of the play unfold.
The central plot line is the story of the VIA "Vinyl", an ensemble that is not allowed to participate in the festival because of their passion for jazz and rock 'n' roll, genres banned in the USSR. However, the young musicians are determined to express themselves through music, despite all the obstacles. The audience will see a romantic love story intertwined with spy intrigue, bright costumes and fiery dances that create the atmosphere of a real holiday.
Director Susanna Tsiryuk, known for her work in musical theaters of Minsk and other cities, promises immersion in the world of nostalgia and bright visual solutions. On the stage of the Lensovet Palace of Culture, viewers will see an impressive set - a 1953 Zvezda radiogram, as well as video content and newsreels that enhance the atmosphere of the festival.
Particular attention is paid to the costumes that reflect the social groups of that time. The hipsters, the main characters of the musical, appear in bright outfits in the New Look style, while Muscovites and Komsomol members are in more restrained colors. This confrontation of worlds is manifested not only in the music and dialogues, but also in the visual design.
