Performance "Crime and Punishment" at the Bolshoi Drama Theater named after G.A. Tovstonogov represents a unique interpretation of the classic work of Fyodor Dostoevsky. Director Motoi Miura, known to Russian audiences for his productions of plays by A.P. Chekhov, created a unique musical and poetic work that reveals the inner world of the main character Rodion Raskolnikov. The play explores the hero's journey from a man of ideas to a man of the heart, emphasizing his internal conflicts and torment.

BDT artists are involved in the production, and the scenography was developed by artist Itaru Sugiyama. The surroundings of Sennaya Square are presented in the form of a brick wall, which creates the atmosphere of St. Petersburg and enhances the drama of what is happening on stage. The performance is structured as a collage, conveying the state of Raskolnikov’s split consciousness. This is a retrospective narrative that immerses the viewer in the world of dreams and memories of the main character.
