The St. Petersburg Musical Comedy Theatre presents a grand event – the world premiere of the musical “Peter I”. This unique project, dedicated to the 350th anniversary of the birth of the great reformer, brings to life the life and deeds of Peter the Great. The production, conceived several years ago, was the result of collaboration between one of the most famous American composers of the 21st century, Frank Wildhorn, and the talented Russian playwright Konstantin Rubinsky.

The musical “Peter I” immerses the viewer in the world of the contradictory and multifaceted emperor, whose reforms changed the course of Russian history. The authors sought to show not only the greatness and scale of Peter’s personality, but also his human traits – dreams, doubts, love and aspiration for the future. It is not the “Bronze Horseman” who comes to life on stage, but a living person whose fate can be traced from childhood to the founding of St. Petersburg.

The production has already received recognition and awards: in 2023, the creative team of the play was awarded the St. Petersburg Government Prize in Culture and Art for 2022. The musical "Peter I" also won the Highest Theatre Prize of St. Petersburg "Golden Sofit" in the nomination "Best Performance in the Genre of Operetta and Musical". The performer of the role of Sofia, Agata Vavilova, became a laureate in the nomination "Best Female Role in Operetta and Musical", and set designer Vyacheslav Okunev received the award for "Best Work of an Artist in a Musical Theatre".

In 2024, the performer of the role of Dosifey, Alexander Sukhanov, was awarded the Russian National Theatre Prize "Golden Mask" in the nomination "Operetta-Musical/Best Supporting Role". Director Yuri Alexandrov, People's Artist of Russia, and musical director and conductor Alexey Nefedov have created a stunning work that will not leave anyone indifferent.
