HC Kunlun Red Star

Kunlun Red Star is a professional ice hockey club founded in 2016 in Beijing, China. The purpose of creating this team was to participate in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). On March 17, 2016, a letter of intent was signed confirming the creation of the team. This agreement was attended by high-ranking representatives of the hockey world, including the President of the Russian Hockey Federation Vladislav Tretyak, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the KHL Gennady Timchenko and the management of Kunlun Red Star. This step was also approved by the President of the International Ice Hockey Federation, Rene Fasel.

On June 24, 2016, the club was approved as a participant in the 2016/17 KHL season at a meeting of the board of directors. On June 25, 2016, an agreement was signed on the team’s participation in the KHL championship of the 2016/17 season in the presence of the heads of Russia and China, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping. The first official match of Kunlun Red Star took place on September 1, 2016 against the Amur club at the Platinum Arena in Khabarovsk, where the team won with a score of 2:1.

On February 18, 2017, Kunlun Red Star reached the playoffs for the first time in its history, which is an important event in the development of the club.
