Valery Fokin is a name that commands admiration and respect in the worlds of theater and film. Born in Moscow in 1946, he became one of the most influential directors of his generation. Fokin graduated from the B.V. Shchukin Theatre School and began his career at the Sovremennik Maly Drama Theater, where he worked from 1971 to 1985. His unique style and innovative approach to production made his works recognizable and beloved by audiences.
From 1985 to 1991, Valery Fokin headed the Yermolova Moscow Drama Theater, and then became artistic director of the Meyerhold Creative Center, where he continues to work, serving as president since 2011. Since 2003, he has directed the Alexandrinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, which under his leadership has become a magnet for art lovers.
Fokin is renowned for his productions not only in Russia but also abroad: Poland, Hungary, Germany, Switzerland, Finland, and the United States are just a few of the countries where his productions have delighted audiences. Among his renowned works are "Transit," based on a script by Leonid Zorin, and "The Metamorphosis," based on Kafka's novel, starring Yevgeny Mironov.
For his achievements, Valery Fokin has received numerous awards: People's Artist of the Russian Federation (1996), Full Cavalier of the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland," and laureate of the State Prizes of the RSFSR and the Russian Federation.
