The history of the team can be divided into several periods, and one of the most significant began in 1970 with the arrival of coach Alexander Yakovlevich Gomelsky. Under his leadership, the team became the champion of the Soviet Union more than 10 times and won the European Champions Cup many times.
In 1992, Stanislav Georgievich Eremin came to the post of head coach of CSKA. He led the team to numerous victories at the All-Russian Championship, and the club became nine-time champions from 1992 to 2000.
The 2005/2006 season was also important for CSKA. Under the leadership of Italian coach Ettore Messina, the team won the Russian Cup, the Kondrashin-Belov Cup and again became the champion of Russia.
CSKA had many talented players and coaches who became famous in the world of basketball.
