BC Samara

Basketball club "Samara" is the pride of Russian basketball, playing in the United VTB League. The history of the club begins in 1976, when the team "Azot" was created in Tolyatti. In 1977, the team debuted in the second tier of the USSR championship, and already in 1981, under the name "Stroitel", won a ticket to the major league.

In 1992, the club won silver in the first championship of Russia, losing only to CSKA. In the 1996/97 and 1997/98 seasons, the team won bronze. In 2002, there was a merger with CSK VVS, and the new team was named "CSK VVS - Samara". In 2006, Honored Master of Sports, Olympic champion Valery Tikhonenko became the head coach. In the 2008/09 season, the team participated in the Super League A and the Challenge Cup.

After bankruptcy in 2009, the club was revived in 2011 under the name BC Samara-SGEU and has been playing in the Super League since then. In 2012, the men's team was revived, which played in the Higher League of the Russian Championship in the 2012/2013 season, and since 2013 has been participating in the Super League. Under the leadership of Igor Grachev, the team reached the championship final in the 2017/2018 season, and became champions in 2019. In the 2019/2020 and 2021/2022 seasons, the Samara team won the Russian Cup twice.
