BC Astana

The Astana Basketball Club is the pride of Kazakhstani sports, founded in 2011 with the support of the Samruk-Kazyna National Welfare Fund. The club quickly gained recognition, becoming the first team from Central Asia to play in the prestigious VTB United League. In addition, Astana actively participates in the West Asian Super League and the Kazakhstan Cup, demonstrating stable results and a high level of play.

The head coach of the club at the time of its creation was the Italian specialist Matteo Boniciolli, recognized as the "Coach of the Year" in Italy in 2008. Under his leadership, the team made an impressive start, and in the 2013/2014 season, under the leadership of Serbian coach Aleksandar Trifunovic, Astana won the Kazakhstan Championship and reached the playoffs of the VTB United League.

The club also made a successful debut on the European arena, taking part in the FIBA ​​Challenge Cup in 2014 and reaching the TOP-16 stage. In 2016, the club was renamed and received the status of the Presidential Basketball Club Astana.
