Stadiums

Description

The Roland Garros stadium is a legendary sports facility whose history is filled with moments of great sporting achievements. This iconic global tennis stadium will be reinvigorated in 2024 at the Paris Games, where it will add another legendary chapter to its rich history. During the 2024 Games in Paris, Roland Garros will not only host tennis and wheelchair tennis competitions, but will also host boxing matches.

Named after the French aviator Roland Garros, this stadium was built in 1928 as an arena for French tennis players participating in the Davis Cup. The stadium is located on the outskirts of the Bois de Boulogne, near the Parc des Princes. Every year he becomes the host of one of the four Grand Slam tournaments - one of the most prestigious and large-scale sporting events in the world. The tournament is broadcast in more than 220 countries and is organized by the French Tennis Federation.

The Roland Garros stadium has undergone a series of expansions and upgrades over the years to match the standards of other Grand Slam arenas. It currently covers an impressive 12 hectares and has 18 clay courts. The latest renovation, carried out from 2015 to 2021, included the installation of a retractable roof over Court Philippe-Chatrier, a revolutionary design solution. In addition, a new 5,000-seat court, named after Simonne-Mathieu, was built and integrated into the surrounding Serre d'Auteuil gardens. These changes make Roland Garros an even more impressive and modern sports venue.
