Circus, dance, and technology: Luzhniki Stadium is showing "Pushkin's Dreams"
The creators of this show deliberately avoid retelling familiar stories precisely. Instead, viewers find themselves in a world of fantasy and dreams conceived by Pushkin himself, where reality and fiction intertwine in incredible ways. Images from works such as "The Tale of Tsar Saltan," "Ruslan and Lyudmila," "The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish," and others come to life in the arena, but they are told not through words, but through acrobatic stunts, movement, and visual metaphors. Pushkin acts as the protagonist and guide through this labyrinth of fantasy, where Lukomorye stretches, Buyan Island towers, and underwater palaces beckon with mystery.
This production from the New Russian Circus company is striking in its scale. A team of six directors, led by Zhanna Shmakova, winner of the Golden Mask Award, worked on the project. The show features over 60 performers, including acrobats, gymnasts, dancers, and world champions in acrobatic rock 'n' roll. A distinctive feature of the performance is the complete absence of animals.
The visual aspect of the show itself becomes an important element of the action. Set designer Yuri Antizersky created a stage covering over 700 square meters using 80 tons of multimedia sets. Volumetric 3D projections, holograms, and interactive elements create a completely immersive experience, transforming the arena into Pushkin's living study and fairytale worlds. This is complemented by 200 unique costumes that meticulously convey the spirit of folk art. The original musical accompaniment, which becomes a character in its own right, deserves special attention.
"Pushkin's Dreams" is not just a circus performance, but a profound, multilayered work of art, engaging for both children and adults. It demonstrates the relevance of classical heritage through contemporary means of expression. This vibrant, high-tech show rediscovers Pushkin's tales and demonstrates that circus art can address complex topics with humor, lyricism, and depth of character. Purchase tickets for the theatrical circus show "Pushkin's Dreams" at Luzhniki Stadium on our website. This event blazes a new trail for Russian circus art.
