Metallica to perform at Etihad Park in December

Metallica is a legendary band that pioneered the thrash metal genre. Along with bands like Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax, they have had a significant influence on the development of the genre. In their early days, Metallica demonstrated an innovative approach to metal, combining the speed and aggression of hardcore with the technical prowess of British heavy metal. Their debut album, Kill 'Em All, released in 1983, became a manifesto for the new genre, setting the tone for thrash metal with its unbridled energy and rebellious spirit. Subsequent albums such as Ride the Lightning (1984) and Master of Puppets (1986) cemented the band's success, demonstrating their sonic evolution and compositional complexity. Master of Puppets is often considered one of the greatest albums in metal history, having had a huge influence on the genre and becoming the standard for thrash metal.

But Metallica's journey did not end there. On the album ...And Justice for All (1988), the band demonstrated their desire to experiment with song structure and performance technique. The 1991 album known as The Black Album was a breakthrough, bringing the band to global popularity and making thrash metal accessible to a wider audience. The musicians actively explored different tempos, melodies and song forms. They recorded albums with an orchestra, shot concert films for cinemas around the world and even performed in Antarctica. Today, Metallica remains one of the most commercially successful bands in the history of music, having sold over 125 million copies of their albums worldwide.

Their latest album, released in 2023 under the title 72 Seasons, is an example of high-quality music. This is not just another release - it is a journey into the world of the early years of a person's life, during difficult periods of personality formation. The album deeply reflects on how childhood traumas and joys affect our future actions and choices. James Hetfield, the band's lead lyricist, explores these themes with sincerity, avoiding smoothing out corners or embellishing reality. The title track is a song that those who have lived through hard times will recognize themselves in: the lyrics touch on memories of the past and the constant negativity that has left a mark on the hero’s soul, especially anger. The album touches on themes of fighting inner demons, addictions, and searching for the meaning of life; many songs are about overcoming difficulties. Hetfield openly shares his experiences, making the album very personal and emotional.

From a musical point of view, “72 Seasons” takes us back to the roots of Metallica’s sound, to the heavy sound of heavy metal that brought them worldwide fame. There are no experiments with genres here; this is pure heavy metal with uncompromising passion and professionalism. The heavy riffs are memorable for a long time, the drums impress with their power and dynamics, and Hetfield’s vocals remain just as charismatic and recognizable. This album is an honest reflection on the past and the present; he inspires to overcome difficulties.
